In my life as a fan of Notre Dame; I have never been more confident with the game on the line as I am when Jimmy is in there!

DB Richmond on October 6th, 2009 at 9:08 pm

The one thing Brady has on Clausen is that he has won in the Big House. Clausen is 0-2 in Ann Arbor so he’ll never win there; however, Clausen has never lost to Michigan at home like Brady did.

Also, Clausen never lost to Navy (Sharpley took every snap that game). If he beats USC and BC the next 2 years, he’ll go down as hands down the greatest ever, being 2-1 against both (sharpley also took all the snaps against USC in 2007).

Clausen will also be the first ever ND quarterback to win a game in black jerseys.

Mike on October 6th, 2009 at 9:13 pm

Nice parentheticals Mike. I think we overlooked the fact that Sharpley took all the snaps in both of those games during our review.

Sprout on October 6th, 2009 at 9:18 pm

I think you forgot Jimmy has atleast 2 records without looking up anything. Clausen set Notre Dame bowl records with 406 yards passing and five touchdowns.

Rob Reishman on October 6th, 2009 at 10:23 pm

Tit for tat, but Jimmy set several individual records during the Hawaii game. The most notable being most TD’s in a bowl game and most yards in a bowl game.

Touché gentlemen…you can tell we really did our homework. I don’t think that would change the outcome of our analysis but they are good points to bring up.

Is it too late for me to be the 1000th post??? Do I get a prize??

Anyway, IMO there is no doubt the Jimbo is WAY ahead of Brady…I loved Brady. The Mighty Quinn was my favorite song for a while. I was ready to name my next child Quinn, and he was very good…but he’s not Jimbo Claussen!!! This kid can hit a gnat off of a bulls ass at 200 yrds!! I hated Jimbo when he first got to ND, with that silly haircut and his stoopid limo…but now? I absolutely love him!! He may be an arsehole, but he’s OUR arsehole!!

One more thing, as good as Jimbo is, I think Dayne will be even better!

I’ve seen every QB at ND dating back to Hannratty. To compare Quinn to Clausen?, to me that’s kind of hard. I think of Montanna, Clemmens, Rice and Meier. Heck, McDougal was great for one year. Beurline never lost to USC. I would say, don’t go by stats, go by heart. Up until this year, I, for some reason had my doubts about Clausen, but he’s making a believer out of me. Quinn had me from the beginning of his Freshmen year. I’m starting to believe that when the game is on the line, Clausen will pull it out, with Quinn I always had that feeling. One thing, all of them are winners. Let’s do the comparissons when his time is up at ND. Forgive me for the mispelling, it’s early

Hey, I got a question for you guys. Do you think theres any chance we see Sergio Brown or maybe Dan McCarthy step in for Harrison Smith agasint U$C? I think Smiths been disappointing the last few weeks..he got embarassed a few times against UW..and with the bye it might be a good time to insert someone else in the line up.

    Go Irish
    F**k Michigan

    Dan H on October 7th, 2009 at 8:59 am

I’ve actually been a little disappointed with Sergio so far this season too. Harrison has a lot more tackles on the year, and I haven’t really seen either of them do anything exceptional in coverage to suggest I would play one over the other.

It’ll be interesting to see how they shake up the defense this week and next to get them ready for ND.

Clausen and Brady are in my mind, pretty equal. What will separate Clausen is a signature win against a big-time team. Let me spell this out…USC. I think Brady was a tremendous leader in addition to his QB-skills…Clausen is rising to this level and I suspect will surpass Brady in time. Clausen is amazing, I just think before we elevate him to the next level he needs to do something Big and QB ND past USC. Or at least against a BCS-worthy opponent in a bowl game. Keep in mind, Clausen has the rest of this year and next to elevate his status! GO IRISH!!!!

Just to add to the debate, brady quinn had nowhere near the talented wrs that jimmy has now. almostall the wrs records that were set when quinn was there will be broke when these wrs leave

tom on October 7th, 2009 at 9:58 am

Really tough debate. Both kind of had the same rocky first couple years and then hit their strides junior year.

I agree that Jimmy has much better weapons to work with on offense, but I think Brady overall had the much better team. It will be interesting to see how it plays out.

It’s interesting that for the first time I can ever remember, I feel much more confident with a deficit and the ball late in the 4th quarter, than I do with a lead and our defense on the field.

I think that is telling in two ways. How truly scary (bad not good) our defense has been, and how great Clausen has been this year — especially late in games.

Kmart on October 7th, 2009 at 10:31 am

Hi guys… The last comment about Brady not having any WR’s is not exactly true – I think if you look at college players – Samardjzia, Stovall, Carleson (TE) were absolutely as good as Floyd and Tate – especially since Floyd has only played a portion of the games with Clausen due to injuries. Anyways, I’m a HUGE Clausen fan this year, he did a 180 degree turn over the last year with his attitude, and though I love Brady, we have to remember that for the most part we are comparing Brady’s Junior and Senior year with what Jimmy has done the first 5 games of his Junior season. After Jimmy plays 19 more Reg. Season games, and hopefully 2 BCS games, we can compare apples and apples. The way it looks right now though is that Jimmy will end up being better and more heroic than Brady – especially if he can win us more Bowl games!

Aren’t we lucky to be able to have this debate? They’re both really awesome; but, please remember Brady had to endure 2 years of Willingham’s b.s. before
CW came along. Quinn deserves an edge just for having the hell beat out of him for those 2 years.

Can I just add, that I love the subway alumni cartoon at the top of the page…I think the whole show should be a cartoon…Not THAT would be entertaining….

Paddy on October 7th, 2009 at 11:22 am

Until Clausen takes the Irish to a BCS bowl or a 10-2 regular season record, my vote is Quinn. Quinn holds all the Irish records. Clausen has been awesome so far this year and potentially could beat out Quinn. But Clausen votes have to be made on just 5 games this year.

Michael Collins on October 7th, 2009 at 11:26 am

This whole debate just has me more po’d at our defense. Remember thinking before the season started if Clausen could make the jump Quinn did in his third year we’d challenge for the MNC. I guess its not over yet…

    Go IRISH! Beat SC!

    t-bob75 on October 7th, 2009 at 11:54 am

Sorry I haven’t told you guys this, but I really enjoy how long the show open is. It’s kind of like the open to Entourage, where I know I have enough time to run and grab a beer or even a bathroom break or even unscrewing a peep hole in a hotel door, hacksawing the eye piece, and taping Erin Andrews naked with my cell phone. I know I could just let the damn show load without hitting play, but what kind of fun would that be without that pressure of landing in my seat just as I see the title hit? Anyways, enjoying your new season better than Entourage, keep up the good work!

Mannix on October 7th, 2009 at 12:32 pm

@t-bob75: Completely agree. Pretty much just had to focus on how good of a season Clausen is having because our Defense is so atrocious right now. At least Michigan is proving not to be a fluke so far, but that one still hurts, and I’ve yet to forgive the defense for it.

@Mannix: I haven’t seen this season of Entourage yet but I’ll take that as a compliment.

Eric on October 7th, 2009 at 1:34 pm

@Mannix, Eric is definitely the Johnny Drama to my Vinnie Chase. After every game, he’s been known to shout “VICTORY!”

Sprout on October 7th, 2009 at 1:46 pm

This has no relevance to this week’s show, but due to the upcoming game in San Antonio may I suggest Ziegenbock (brewed exclusively for Texas) and Shinerbock. And I would also like to see how many of those people voting for Jimmy now are some bandwagon Jimmy fans..

No need to apologize. we had over 30 folks and lots and lots of lake erie perch. some of which are your facebook fans. Great new shirts and hats. (have yours saved)

i showed my wife your apology and she laughed because thats not the only game i attend. i havent missed a home game yet and we went to ann arbor too.

ill be there for usc. ill stop by pole 13 with your hats and shirts. Go Irish. Enjoy the bye week.

Rep Tim on October 7th, 2009 at 5:38 pm

What’s even worse is that when we are missing those tackles the other guys stop pursuing to the ball. That is something you learn in 8th grade…….always play til the whistle blows. You guys might not have seen that on TV, but it was quite noticeable from the stands. The D backs don’t turn to look for the ball. If I see Sergio Brown late to cover the hot route on the blitz one more time I’m going to kill someone.

Harrison Smith is killing me. He is awful, and for some reason he seems to have lost his athleticism.

Clausen being the first to win in a black jersey?? What is that?? Am I missing something?? Mike….. Clausen may never win in Ann Arbor, but you can’t blame the last loss on him. If fact, you can probably blame the 38-0 drubbing on Ty because he was working on his short game when he should have been recruiting.

Rob on October 8th, 2009 at 6:21 am

Great show as always guys. Do want to give a little love to the defense especially on those goal line stands. I have got to believe Kapron Lewis-Moore is the best 2 last name player ever in the history of ND. Can’t think of another.
Here’s to the Trojan Horse being in a can of Alpo by about 7:00 p.m. on 10-17-09.

    K-zoo Ron on October 8th, 2009 at 7:00 am

Brady is statistically the best passing qb in ND history, Jimmy is well on his way to that but is an incomplete at this time.

Jimmy is quickly beginning to inspire the same thought as when I watched Brady & CO, when the Irish offense is on the field and that is that the drive will end in points.

He is also making fans expect a touchdown to win the game.

Daniel on October 9th, 2009 at 8:41 am

The first to win in black jerseys? Please. It’s bad enough that he won a game with names on the back of the jerseys. We are ND. We are blue and gold…and green!

We are Blue and Gold...and Green! on October 9th, 2009 at 11:51 am

And putting names on jerseys was down during the Ara years. And Holtz did it for the Cotton Bowl. I don’t see it as the end of the world.

Sprout on October 9th, 2009 at 12:14 pm

I was bummed that I passed up 2 free tix to the game last Saturday partly because I missed seeing an historic and exciting game in person and partly because I was planning on stopping by pole 13 to meet you guys. Now that I watched this week’s show, I realize I wouldn’t have met up you anyway, so I am not as upset. I stayed home and watched with the wife and ironically, she threw a flag on me later that night….turns out I had roughed her snapper. (Try the veal, I’m here all week).
In any case, I think JC wins the QB title soley as a reward for running for his life all of his freshman year. Glad we have another year and a half to watch him at the helm. Let’s pray that we send that Trojan Horse to the glue factory next week. GO IRISH……beat the Poodle.

I was wondering if you guys would like to promote some gameday shirts we are selling for the USC game:

One is with Hughes running out of a condom that reads, No Trojan can handle a HUUUUUUUGGGGGHHHHEEEESSSS Load!

and the Second one reads No trojan can cover our Golden Jimmy!
