Curse of the Argyle Home

First there was the football team, then it was the basketball squad, and now most recently the women’s soccer team has fallen to UNC. The Curse of the Argyle lives on.

This week, Eric and Sprout take a break from football and give a belated preview of the ‘08-’09 basketball season.

Also, Sprout discusses his plans to detox from the tailgating season, Eric throws down a new challenge for Sprout to make half-court shots, and the guys at Magic Hat have thrown in a little giveaway with the purchase of each shirt.

And finally, tSAS will now be releasing the Coaches Poll on YouTube every Tuesday night as well. Be sure to subscribe and be the first in your family to watch!

    1st!

Great show guys. Looking forward to next week. Too bad you’re not going to be in Hawaii for the bowl game.

    Irish73 on December 9th, 2008 at 8:09 pm

Wow, I’m famous. Plus, I’ve got a new screen name. So much more exciting than using my name.

    A$%&#! Lawyer on December 9th, 2008 at 10:38 pm

We really said you are an “actual” lawyer…it was just funnier when we bleeped it out…

Actually, it was in reference to the Tuesday Teaser. Here’s the link in case you missed it: http://www.thesubwayalumnishow.com/tuesday-teaser-week-14/

Sprout on December 9th, 2008 at 10:45 pm

Great show. You guys should go to the bowl game. Hawaii is beautiful and I hear you can get laid the minute you step off the plane.

hondo on December 9th, 2008 at 11:00 pm

After missing the family Thanksgiving for this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X6BIHux0ek4&fmt=6 I think our parents would be pretty pissed if we missed Christmas to get leid.

Sprout on December 9th, 2008 at 11:04 pm

So I bought a couple shirts like a month ago,one for me and one was actually for a Christmas present for my dad. I am also a huge Magic Hat fan and was deeply saddened that I missed out on the free gift.

    Go Irish! F*#@ UNC!

    Rudy87 on December 10th, 2008 at 1:27 am

Sorry bout that Rudy. But if we say yes to you, we’d have to say yes to the other 4,367 people who have purchased shirts already as well.

We’ll be having more promotions and giveaways as the show continues though.

Thanks for watching. Your dad is gonna have a very happy Christmas too. Cheers.

Sprout on December 10th, 2008 at 6:08 am

Good thing UNC does not have a hockey team.

JohnnyIrish on December 10th, 2008 at 10:32 am

An argyle hockey sweater would be pretty badass though.

Sprout on December 10th, 2008 at 10:40 am

we’re playing hawaii at hawaii and sprout didn’t get a shout out to mahalo in the entire episode. i thought for sure it would happen.

brey was on my bookstore team one year. guys on my team still blame him for us losing.

rohn on December 10th, 2008 at 11:03 am

We are doing our bowl special next week…which means I’ll have a whole episode to name drop.

Sprout on December 10th, 2008 at 11:06 am

What if we countered with a black/green argyle hockey sweater…with laces at the yoke of the neck?

JohnnyIrish on December 10th, 2008 at 12:15 pm

Speaking of DePaul, going to the new years eve game… 4th row, center court. Go Irish. Also I’m a little offended of the longsleeve under the t-shirt comment… I have a lot of sweet T’s that I want to be able to wear during the cold season.

    O'Moore on December 10th, 2008 at 12:59 pm

@JohnnyIrish: That hockey sweater would be sweet, they should definitely consider that.

@O’Moore: I wouldn’t take any of our fashion tips seriously. After all I do wear that jacket every week.

Eric on December 10th, 2008 at 1:13 pm

I can’t believe you like the turtlenecks - I was hoping when I saw it on your Coaches Poll that you were going to ask Brey to lose them, much like you did with Clausen’s hair!

MackerelSnappingAnarchist on December 10th, 2008 at 1:21 pm

Haha…oh man…this really is turning into a fashion show.

@O’Moore…I meant you no harm. I supposed it’s the people I have met, not the clothes they are wearing that I should judge. But I see you just purchased a shirt as well, so I shall judge you as an awesome human being.

@Mackeral…with Jimmy we knew what we were getting when we asked him to lose the hair. God only knows what’s underneath Brey’s turtlenecks and we certainly aren’t inclined to find out.

Sprout on December 10th, 2008 at 1:29 pm

@Mackeral: And we never said we liked turtleneck’s, we just like Brey’s turtlenecks…it says, “You know I’m formal, but I still like to party.”

@Sprout: We should make a Subway Alumni turtleneck for him, see if he’ll wear it during a game.

Eric on December 10th, 2008 at 2:30 pm

Eric, did you get a new haircut or something? You aren’t wearing a cap in backwards fashion. Since you guys are fashion gurus, your change might cause civil unrest in the SAS community. My own fears have led me to start drinking…..actually, I was doing that anyway.

JohnnyIrish on December 10th, 2008 at 2:31 pm

Another good one guys. I’m hoping Rudy87 is my son, so I get a SubAlum shirt. Of course now I’ll have to order a shirt and give him the Magic Hat gift…

Sweeney on December 10th, 2008 at 4:20 pm

You guys are still sucking down a case of Magic Hat? WTF? Come on ladies…I know the bottles don’t have “Mountains” on the label, but you’ve got to pick up the pace. You’ve got to get those raisin looking livers of yours in game shape for Christmas and New Years Eve.

Clutch on December 10th, 2008 at 4:38 pm

Dont worry Clutch, when you suck the corporate teet as well as we do, you get more than a case sent to you.

Sprout on December 10th, 2008 at 5:07 pm

Touché. Well, then I expect a great supply of Magic Hat rather than grabbing $13 mountain beer at your next tailgate. Consider me the Chief of Liver Police.

Clutch on December 10th, 2008 at 6:23 pm

January 24th is slotted as a mountain beer experience. We can go to a bar after the game and drink Magic Hat like civilized people. But during the tailgate it’s all mountains.

Sprout on December 10th, 2008 at 6:30 pm

We’ll be there. I’ll roll into town Friday afternoon. Mannix will roll into town on Saturday. I don’t have any winter tailgating skills, but I’m up for a first.

Clutch on December 10th, 2008 at 7:09 pm

Actually…and I’m not sure if anyone has mentioned this yet, but Brey doesn’t go full turtleneck, it’s more of a mock turtleneck. Wouldn’t want Eric to show up looking to get a picture with Coach, and sporting a full, when he really should be wearing a mock. I don’t know.

mannix on December 10th, 2008 at 8:09 pm

    He’s got a good point.
However, Brey could switch it up for that game. Point being is he’s playing the #2 team in the country. He already played the #1 team in the country and lost. Maybe he switches it up with a full just to shed the bad mojo…or argyle curse.
To avoid this fashion blunder, I say we all go with our hair slicked back, à la Pat Riley. You can’t go wrong there.
Or…we could tape our ears forward, à la Luke Zeller.

Clutch on December 10th, 2008 at 8:18 pm

wow, i remember the soccer player from iceland. i nearly passed out every time i saw her at south dining hall.

    NDcivil03 on December 10th, 2008 at 8:41 pm

Thanks for the link. I missed it since, you know, I have a job that doesn’t include drinking and filming webisodes.

Also, Lil E sounds less like a lawyer and more like John McCain trying to read off cue cards. Stick to the ad lib, baby brother.

I have a layover in Houston on my way to Grandma’s on Christmas eve. So I will be drinking well before I get to Cleveland. Best be ready.

    A$%&#! Lawyer on December 10th, 2008 at 9:15 pm

…I had to park at the SC game right across the aisle from where you guys landed with that rent-a-truck, et al…had my 12-year old son with me…to quote him after we spent 10-minutes taking in the action…”I’m embarrassed to have my ND gear on and have the SC people think I’m with them”…

    …nice…

    jim/redondo beach on December 11th, 2008 at 10:27 am

@jim/redondo beach: This may be my favorite comment of all time.

Tell him we apologize for embarrassing him. Add to that the embarrassment the team must have given him after their dismal performance and I can only hope we haven’t scarred him for life.

Sprout on December 11th, 2008 at 10:40 am

Guys: Great shows, keep up the good work. I will be sure to bring some Magic Hat to my poker game this weekend to enhance my performance.

p.s. I do believe that the combo of Sprout’s shorts (from the USC tailgating video), Eric’s jacket and the long sleeve under-tee would be fashion magic. Believe me, I’m an actual lawyer as well.

    Torch8191 on December 11th, 2008 at 1:43 pm

Good work guys. Just got caught up on the last few shows.

I’m actually going to be in Hawaii over Christmas visiting the in-laws. I was looking into Hawaii Bowl tickets a few weeks ago since I was going to be down there anyway, but I think going to the game on Christmas Eve was asking too much, so unfortunately they didn’t go for it. Then like salt on an open wound, ND got the other invite…

Pat Mc on December 11th, 2008 at 3:43 pm

Hey Sprout, I know UNC has been handing it to us in everything short of underwater basketweaving, but what’s with the Carolina blue long sleeve shirt? You switching to a winner?

Irish Joe on December 11th, 2008 at 8:11 pm

    Great show, as always, gentlemen.

If you retire that argyle hat, you need to have a raffle or something. I’d be all over that.

And Magic Hat needs to create a brew in honor of the aforementioned argyle. I mean, that hat is your signature. The obvious reference just needs to be honored.

Aforementioned. D@mn, now even I’M sounding like a lawyer.

DagerOne on December 11th, 2008 at 8:37 pm

Great Show as always! Speaking of UNC dominating us, now they’re taking Will Yeatman too! Will pretty much has confirmed he is transferring to Chapel Hill after final exams.

Here’s the second part of our in depth look at Hawaii: http://irishbandofbrothers.blogspot.com/2008/12/hawaii-five-o-pt-2-don-ho-edition.html
