Episode 23

Fingernails and Teeth, Coming at Ya

From the “Tornado of Terror” to a USC decommit, the Loyal Sons are pretty thrilled with the 2009 committing class. Oh, did we mention, Manti Te’o!

Once again, awesome show. Love the commentary about Shaq. I have my own ideas, how about whenever he scores a touchdown, someone yells, “Kazaam!!”? Maybe he plays hoops, Lord knows the B-ball team could use someone who won’t fake the funk on a nasty dunk.

Either way, I am thrilled to get the Little Aristotle on the field soon.

Keep up the awesome work, I always look forward to Wednesdays, hope to see you at the Spring Game if you are there….

I think Tornado of Terror is the best nick-name I’ve heard in a while. Very intimidating.

If I enter and win the contest, I’ll bring some cupcakes along!

Hey guys whats up? Just found this website yesterday and I think it’s incredible. Ive been stuck using the free version of rivals.com/irishillustrated.com and it sucks. I really follow recruiting and I learned alot of new things in the 2 hours I was on this site yesterday. But heres some of my opinions..

Zeke Motta- I think it would be better to have a tackling machine like him at line backer rather than saftey. Everyone loved Zbikowski for the first two years because he was different, but his lack in cover skills kinda made fans turn against him a little bit senior year. We have enough traditional DB’s that we should probly use to help the pass defense.

Shaq Evans- I was as happy as you were about this, obviously. The name is alone make me a fan. But to kick dirt in USC’s eyes by commiting to ND makes me smile.

Manti Te’o- Wow…. Still in shock from this, still dont believe he commited, is it real? How did he NOT commit to USC and follow the foot steps of Ray Maualuga, it almost seems like his destiny. But, miracles do happen some times. I saw video of him playing running back in high school and it looked like the running of the bulls, Manti being the bull ofcourse. I love it when players from defense come and play offense and vise versa, hope he gets some carries.

p.s. Uncle phils nickname from his parents is zeke!

Glad you found the site SoV. Thanks for the info on Zeke/Uncle Phil…looks like Eric knew what he was talking about after all.

    Zbikowski 2.0 would be horrible.

    Great memory on Uncle Phil/Zeke:

How did I not think to say “Kazaam!” once that whole episode.

@SenderOfVolleys & JoePa: Thanks for backing me up on the Uncle Phil/Zeke reference, I knew I wasn’t making that stuff up.

@Tim: I’ll definitely let you know when I’m back in Parma, hopefully it’s sooner rather than later.

    Go Irish. Beat L’ville.

    a) Alaska is in the CCHA (same conference as ND)
    b) Their name/mascot is the “Nanooks.”
    c) Once you start seeing the same bottlecaps, it may be time to switch beers. I humbly suggest Michelob Golden Draft Light.
    d) Sprout, who are our two losses next year?
    e) NMU is in the UP (or the uepper). They play mean hockey up there.

dogolfer on February 12th, 2009 at 9:18 am

Dave – we’re gonna have to get you on the show for our hockey episode…you know way more than I can ever learn from Blades of Steal.

I’ll save my full prediction on our two losses until the Blue & Gold game.

And if we drink anything else, it may have to be Boggs’ Lites, a term tgiab.com so masterfully coined.

Where did you guys come up with you’re ranking on the coaches? I assume that’s some sort of ranking on that board. Ty should be on the bottom, dead bottom.

Hey guys are ya’ll really coming down for Mardi Gras? I live in New Orleans and would love to party with ya’ll. Shoot me an e-mail and let me know.

    Go Irish!

Derek Ramsak on February 12th, 2009 at 1:50 pm

Derek, we are going to Vermont, not New Orleans…sorry. Magic Hat promised us beer…it’s hard to turn that down.

Mayday, we explained our ranking of the coaches in on of our first episodes I think, but the jist of it is that yes, sometimes we use the coaches to rank our poll topic from good to bad, and being that O’Leary had to lie to even get the job, we found the bottom very fitting for him.

I’m planning on going to the Blue Gold game….minus the wife and with the esophagus of a shotgun god. Trying to talk Mannix into coming too.

Hope to meet up with you guys again, minus the scotch induced curfew we had at UConn.

How the hell does Eric know so much about the Fresh Prince? He was 5 to 11 when it was on. Incredible. But the proper nickname for Mr. Motta is “The Plumber,” after the Ghost of Camp Annawanna by the same name.

hey is there anyway to get your opening song version as a ringtone??? yeah i am that guy. seriously though, anyway to get it?

nepachris on February 14th, 2009 at 5:42 pm

zeke was uncle phil’s nickname given to him by his mama. considering you guys can’t be much older/younger than me, then you have to know everything about it. it was my favorite show back then and i still watch reruns and that episode was just on tbs the other morning. “fingernails and teeth coming at ya” got to be one of the best lines i have heard in awhile.

nepachris on February 14th, 2009 at 6:20 pm

U$C recruited Woods as a FS, with all the talent we have at RB do you see him being switched to FS in the future when we become very thin at the position? U$c had woods ranked as their number one FS recruit, better than moore and starling. With his speed, you could never call him Zibi 2.0. Do offense Tommy you were one of my favorite ND players.

    John B on February 15th, 2009 at 2:33 pm

First of all, “Uper” is what you call people who live in the upper peninsula of Michigan. So, they would be playing in the U.P., not the “Uper”. You owe us Michiganders (Mannix and I) a beer on that one.

Don’t forget, not only do we have Shaq this year, but we also have “Neon” Deion Walker. After digging a little deeper, check out this unbelievable list of WRs this year:
Brian Coughlin (Related to Tom Coughlin?)
    Michael Floyd (Stud)
    Dan Franco
    Michael Garcia
    John Goodman (Redshirt last year.)
    Christopher Gurries
Duval Kamara (I think he grew another inch since the end of the season…judas!!)
Robby Parris (According to the 2009 roster…he’s back again. This guy is like the Ross twins of the ND men’s basketball team of the 80’s. He’ll be on the team for 10 years.)
    Golden Tate (Golden stud.)
    Sam Vos
Deion Walker (Redshirt last year and I believe he was a higher ranked recruit than Floyd.)
George West Jr. (I forgot about the guy from the Wild Wild West series. Didn’t know he was still around.)

Our of the 13 receivers on the team, 5 are 5′11″ or less.

Oh, and while you’re at Magic Hat, see if they are serving any of the newly acquired Pyramid Brewery beers. I used to drink this brand a lot when I lived in the Pacific Northwest. Great selection of some of the best wheat beers I’ve ever had. A buddy of mind pointed out that Magic Hat bought Pyramid last summer.

We’re still arguing about which apricot beer is better, Magic Hat #9 or Pyramid Apricot Wheat.

    GOOD NEWS!!!!

U of Mich starting QB Steven Threet is transferring!!!

Yeah, Dick Rod prob. has a better spread formation QB in mind on the team, causing Threet to transfer.

    Either way…F*CK MICHIGAN!!!
