Be nice to UW, they come to South Bend next year. They are a different team with Locker at QB and USC’s 2 coordinators.

You are on the button, however I still think they lack the athletes across the board to compete.
They have a losing mind set and that will take time to rid themselves of irregardless of who the coach’s are and what they bring to the table.

Hey guys, first time visiting the site. Pretty cool set up. I’m impressed. But as a hardcore ND fan from Ohio, I have to ask, what’s with the “Jimmy Tressel” sweater vest set up in the back left? That disturbs me. Hopefully its all in fun. Be well, thanks for the great site.

Adam on January 7th, 2009 at 7:35 am

One of our good friends sells the shirts. You can get them at Jupmode.com

We too are from Ohio, so we like to give props to them from time to time and thought it appropriate after their bowl loss.

(We’re not your average run of the mill ND fan that absolutely hates OSU. We save that energy for Michigan, USC and BC.)

Sprout on January 7th, 2009 at 7:48 am

Guys, love your show though you need to pound more brew. You are to kind to Charlie Weiss, he really does suck. My biggest concern is that we are constantly out coached in the second half. In other words our halftime adjustments suck and that is coaching. Charlie must go!!

Mike on January 7th, 2009 at 7:54 am

I hear ya man. SC, BC and UofM are awful and I waste most of my hatred on them. I’m not quite sure that I hate OSU, but OSU fans mostly hate ND and that doesn’t sit well with me. At the same time, every time OSU loses it feels like Christmas morning.

    GO IRISH

Adam on January 7th, 2009 at 8:09 am

Also, where at in Ohio are you guys from?

Adam on January 7th, 2009 at 8:09 am

Another off season of restless waiting only to have our hopes dashed with senseless mediocrity. ND needs to send the OL and DL out to Gym Jones in Salt Lake City. Teach those boys how to be men.

valpodoc on January 7th, 2009 at 8:14 am

We grew up outside of Cleveland. Attended St. Ignatius. Home to Robby Parris and such.

    Now we live in Chicago.

Sprout on January 7th, 2009 at 8:14 am

Nice. Ignatius got themselves yet another D1 title this fall. I’m from a small football town south of Toledo. Kenton? Not sure if you guys have heard of it or not. I just graduated from Holy Cross College in May and am now stuck back in Ohio. I love Chicago because of the Cubbies and the proximity to ND. Once again guys, good stuff on here. Great shows…

Adam on January 7th, 2009 at 8:18 am

    Hire Jags for OC!!!

Dekom on January 7th, 2009 at 8:24 am

@Adam: Glad you found us, I never really got the hatred for ND from OSU fans either. We have the same common rivals, perhaps they’re bitter we won’t join t he Big Ten.

@valpodoc: Not sure what Gym Jones is all about in Salt Lake but I’m all for it.

Eric on January 7th, 2009 at 8:31 am

…would like to know your impression of our “4-star” tailbacks that over the last two-years have compiled a record of 873 carries; 2.67 ypc; 93 yards per game…with the longest run from scrimmage coming on a fake punt by a linebacker…

…I know the offensive line has its problems…but what’s up with this trio?…not to even start about the “do-nothing” fullback position…

    jim/redondo beach on January 7th, 2009 at 9:30 am

Glad you guys are staying around through the offseason. We’ve all developed a sick addiction to the Subway Alumni Show. And Magic Hat…

Sweeney on January 7th, 2009 at 9:56 am

Excellent site! I think we are only getting better, and the good times are yet to come. Have a beer on me fellas.

John on January 7th, 2009 at 10:09 am

So you think we are a bad team ..I am thankful you are not one of my employees..Because you would starve to death for thinking..

Jack Fromm on January 7th, 2009 at 10:14 am

@Jack …wait, so does that mean you’re employees aren’t allowed to hate on Notre Dame or they aren’t allowed to think?

Sprout on January 7th, 2009 at 10:59 am

A hockey show is a necessity.

“They should run onside kicks every down.” The insight in that comment is amazing.

Is it Magic Hat for the rest of 2009?

dogolfer on January 7th, 2009 at 11:08 am

@jim/redondo beach: The trio has definitely not lived up to the expectations. I think a few injuries, poor execution, offensive line play and play calling all have had factors in it. I’ve been disappointed in the running game for some time now and I think we just have to get used to it as long as Charlie is calling the shots. He’s a QB coach and doesn’t think he’ll be able to compete with the Floridas and USCs of college football if he relies on a running game. It’s just pathetic when we can’t compete with the UNCs and BCs of college football because of it. I’m hoping Wood changes all of that.

@Tim, right on! I had no idea we had a fan right in our backyard. We’re originally from Parma Hts.

Sprout on January 7th, 2009 at 12:56 pm

Sprout it’s nice to see that you’re making a trip down to the Bluegrass State for a few days. Unfortunately I am about an hour away in Lexington.

P.S.- My favorite Magic Hat cap that I’ve revealed so far: ” To conceal a fart is an age old art.”

    Rudy87 on January 7th, 2009 at 3:26 pm

@Rudy87 the way you say “unfortunate”, it makes it sound like you aren’t going to ditch work on Friday and come join me at a local pub.

And that’s a great cap. We should start having everyone send in cap phrases they find.

@dogolfer, when the teat is flowing, you don’t stop drinking. We’ll have to teach tgiab.com a thing or two at our next meet and greet.

Sprout on January 7th, 2009 at 3:30 pm

@Tim: Thanks for representing Parma. We were just there this past weekend, good times.

@Rudy: You should ditch work, having known Sprout I can vouch for him. You’ll have a good time.

Eric on January 7th, 2009 at 3:56 pm

Eric, I bought that same freaking hat this morning. Dammit.

    A#$%! Lawyer on January 7th, 2009 at 3:57 pm

I meet a john amato who sells the shirt/vest combo at the pitt game waiting for the pisser. we are not related but he had a great amato restaraunt hat on.

ND will be better next year because they have to be especially on offense if they run hughes and use wood, gray, and allen for a change of pace.
    Go Irish

amato on January 7th, 2009 at 5:27 pm

That John Amato is the very one we know. Good man. Irish alumn. Played on the team for a year or two under Ty, I believe.

Sprout on January 7th, 2009 at 6:08 pm

you have to put syracuse on there. that was the worst game and feeling i experience ever in that stadium and mind you that i have no missed a game since i was six.

Cory on January 7th, 2009 at 7:08 pm

Keep hearing Urban Meyer stories. Do any of you think he will ever come to ND? Maybe after Charlies contract is up.
I feel it is more the scheme than the backs and the line, although the line is part of it. Also would like to see a fullback.
By the way has anyone heard anything about Schmitt?

Ed on January 7th, 2009 at 7:23 pm

Sorry A-Lawyer, it’s a sweet hat though. Maybe you should have gotten a different color.

@Cory: That’s a pretty impressive streak you got there, although I don’t know how old you are. I guess you could be 7 and then it wouldn’t be that impressive. The Syracuse one hurt, a lot. We threw it in with the last 5 games.

@Ed: I don’t think Urban is coming to the rescue anytime soon. I’ll keep my fingers crossed though watching the game tomorrow night.

Eric on January 7th, 2009 at 7:48 pm

One coach I have yet to here mentioned is Mike Shanahan. He was mentioned in the past and now is “taking a year off”. Like they say, timing is everything…..
Meyer seems like a long shot to me, but if he does have a soft spot for the Irish, he could make a liar out of me.
Interesting note, whichever coach wins tomorrow night will be, i think, the 17th coach to win more than one National Championship…. if that happens to be Meyer maybe he’ll head to south bend?

Jamie on January 7th, 2009 at 8:32 pm

yoooooo did u guys go to the penn state game last year at beaver staduim????

Sean on January 7th, 2009 at 9:08 pm

We only made it to a couple of the home games last year. Only two I think. It was too depressing.

Sprout on January 7th, 2009 at 9:13 pm

    boys-

glad to hear your from the hts. i attend holy cross college and transferred JCU (91). I grew up in Mishawaka

I do a ND Bus trip political fundraiser trip every year to a game with 30 guys. send me a email with your mailing addy. i need to send you boys a vote like a champion hat and t-shirt from those bus trips. http://www.timdegeeter.com

at cbus, you see lots of blue and gold.

    Tim

tim on January 7th, 2009 at 9:29 pm

haha yea that is depressing, Im planning on going to notre dame vs usc , it will be my first trip there. I went to the psu game last year and was dressed as a leprechaun haha. Then i went to navy in 04,06 and this year I LEFT with 10 min left and ended up seeing last drive by navy and the hail mary….

Sean on January 7th, 2009 at 9:30 pm

here’s what’s been troubling me. I think it’s time we STOP talking about how great the incoming recruits are; I’ve absolutely had it with this “4 top ten classes” crap. IT’S ABOUT TIME WE SEE IT ON THE FIELD. GO IRISH!

jason on January 7th, 2009 at 11:07 pm

Great point Jason. It seems like everyone, everywhere is a 4-star recruit these days. Until it translates into double digit W’s and BCS berths I don’t think it should be talked about.

Eric on January 8th, 2009 at 7:39 am

Eric…don’t hold your breath about Wood. I’ve heard some people saying he’s soft, which unfortunately would make him fit right in with the current starting lineup.

I watched him in the U.S. Army All American game a week ago and he really didn’t do much. But, that doesn’t really say much either.

I just notice on a website that previews the 2008 season, Jonas Gray is listed with a 40 speed equal to A. Allen 4.35). Plus he’s ~30lbs heavier. I wonder why he doesn’t get more playing time?

Oh, and don’t forget that we get Walls back on D next year, plus all those red shirts and other Freshman we didn’t see play this season (or rarely): Goodman, Crist, D. Walker, Fauria, Posluszny, Flemming, J. Gray, G. Gray, Filer, Slaughter, D. McCarthy. It’s like putting this years Xmas presents away and opening them next fall!!

The biggest reason that we will indeed be better next year: Good ‘ol #20, Terrail Lambert is FINALLY gone. I’ve seen him blow 100’s of plays, yet he makes 1 great play and everyone forgets.
(Hear that Detroit Lions? Pick Lambert up as your #1 pick…just to keep it “real”.)

Clutch on January 11th, 2009 at 12:43 pm

    Eric & Sprout -
Enjoyed your site all season, my new go-to home for Irish discussion, without the arrogance found on most other ND sites. With the basement backdrop and beer flowing you understand what being a real Irish fan means (and it has nothing to do with attending the university or having great SAT scores).

Foster on January 12th, 2009 at 12:55 pm

@clutch: yeah I would like to see some more of Jonas as well, we have such a crowded backfield it drives me nuts. I’m gonna hang my hopes on Wood, the All-American game is never a good indicator in my opinion. We’ll see I guess, I dont think he can be any worse but you never know.

@foster: glad you’ve stuck with us all year. Be sure to keep coming back as we got some pretty good shows in the works. And as long as basketball and hockey keep it up there could be some good games along the way.

Eric on January 12th, 2009 at 4:44 pm

i’m way behind here. but that’s crazy, you have another amato commenting on this site. when should we expect this mustache episode.

rohn on January 21st, 2009 at 10:27 am
