Guys, thanks for the shoutout and for participating in the conversation. We owe you a beer or six on Saturday.

    Go Irish!

Andrew Hunn on September 29th, 2009 at 11:54 pm

Well done gentlemen. I have started watching your show over the past couple weeks and I must say, I’m impressed. Your analysis is on point (not to mention Two Brothers is a solid beer).

Keep up the good work. Girsh!

Hey guys…if you’re phloating around White “Trash” Phield, shoot me a text or email. If not, Mannix and I (with wives in tow) will try and stop by Pole 13 on our way into the game.

Will the real Officials please stand up?
The reason the penalties were a little more under control this past weekend was because the real Big 10 “officials” were busy showing off their kick ass skillz in Ann Arbor. Phucking Wolverines.

Oh, one more thing. Get your livers ready for the USC game. I’m heading off to Philadelphia next weekend to do some training (http://www.kennettbrewfest.com) and Mannix and I are getting pumped!!!

Tackling better = SWEEP THE LEG!

Thanks guys. See you this weekend.

“Put ‘em in a body bag, Joooohny!” should become the team motto.

Sprout on September 30th, 2009 at 10:49 am

started watching your show last season and have become a regular- good stuff.
one quick topic that i want to throw out there (which i believe correlates to the tackling isssue)is that washington is a very physical football team. imo they are the most physical team the irish have seen yet and will become a key intangible for this game. offensively i believe the irish will match their physicality up-front and have at least enough success running the ball to control the game. however, defensively i believe they will need to employ a similar game-plan to the purdue blueprint; they should blitz less, disguise as much as possible, and hit like freight trains. particularly locker. through 4 games i have yet to see the irish really lay a lickin’ on an opposing teams’ qb, let alone a rb or wr. that style of play could directly increase turnover margin and inhibit an offense from finding its rhythm.
    enough rambling….. love the show.

jcs on September 30th, 2009 at 12:14 pm

Oh…by the way, I hope the Blackout plan works better than it did for the Georgetown hoops game we all went to last season. Otherwise it will be a black and that god awful brownish/gold color filling the entire stadium, or more importantly, the student section.

I guess I’ll go dig that hoops “Blackout” shirt. I never thought I would have a need to wear that again besides wearing it to the gym or wiping the oil dipstick in my car.

Clutch on September 30th, 2009 at 2:55 pm

    …or was it UConn? I can’t remember.

Clutch on September 30th, 2009 at 2:56 pm

@Clutch: It was UConn…and I can’t imagine it working any better than it did at the basketball game.

@jcs: Good points about being physical from the start. Locker IMO is the toughest we’ll see all year from being able to take a hit standpoint, and it’s something that the Irish hopefully will do often come Saturday. I thought they did an okay job disguising the blitz in Purdue, our seats were close to the field so I’d like to watch the game on TV again to see how well it looked on tape.

Eric on September 30th, 2009 at 3:05 pm

We’ll be there, Tim. Can’t wait.

Sprout on September 30th, 2009 at 6:19 pm

Where the Hell is pole 13, anyway? Wife and I will be at the game Saturday, and if there’s any chance of adding you two to my “Celebrities I’ve seen at Notre Dame games” I’m all for it.

    Yeah. Celebrities. I said it.

Clutch, sorry I never caught up to you in Ann Arbor (is a whore!). That parking lot at Pioneer is HUGE.

I see Locker rushing for 60+ yards against us, and not as a result of scripted runs. We’ve flushed QBs from the pocket, but never managed to tackle them for a loss. Locker is hard to bring down and can run, so I see him breaking off a couple of 10+ runs.

That said, ND wins 34-21. If ND loses, I’m putting my BC tickets up for sale as I’m obviously a phucking jinx.

Dager on September 30th, 2009 at 6:30 pm

Pole 13 is in the JACC lot.

“Celebrities” is being generous. The Regis is a celebrity. We’re a step above the star wars kid on YouTube.

And we are looking for BC tix, so if you do plan on selling, look our way.

Sprout on September 30th, 2009 at 7:12 pm

I think I knew what I was talking about when I made my “Jake Locker for Heisman” website.

    http://www.mtpayne.com

Even though he will be the best athlete we’ll play against all year, UW cannot stop the run and their offense only scored 1 TD against Stanford in their first road game of the year. Expect a blow out by ND. Crist will play the whole fourth.

Oh, and I worked at the ND football practice today. Expect a sweet play or two out of the wildcat formation in the redzone.

Mike on September 30th, 2009 at 7:32 pm

    Gentlemen:
Another interesting installment which I enjoyed because I have always been a fan of the letter P. It is the only consonant that can masquerade as so many other consonants. Consider pseudonym, pterodactyl, pneumonia or phosphorus for some examples. Also, the internets tell me that a puma is another name for a cougar, as is mountain lion, catamount, or panther, depending on the region. Another name for a cougar is Mrs. Brooks down the street but that is another story entirely.
In any case, we are a third of the way through the season and our schedule doesn’t look so easy anymore. I had looked at UW as being 0-12 last year and a probable pushover, until they beat USC that is. I’m really hoping that game tells us more about USC than it does about UW however. Maybe they can be beaten this year.
In closing, please consider some of my favorite P words:

Possibilities – the 2010 Irish should really kick ass,
Pro – I hope Mike and Jimmy don’t turn that way,
Pathetic – a word used to describe Michigan fans,
Propinquity – our nearness or proximity to a championship,
Perspicacious – CW’s keen ability to shred a defense,
and finally……callipygian. OK so it doesn’t start with P but I just love this word.

    Yours very truly,
    JersyShoreNDFan

JerseyShoreNDFan on September 30th, 2009 at 9:01 pm

I have an extra USC ticket. Can I crash on your couch with your women?

Uncle Rico on September 30th, 2009 at 10:30 pm

I’ll say this about Toby Gerhart – the kid is good. Don’t underestimate him. (But I hate Stanford – so I vote for beating him and the rest of the trees when the time comes.)

ND du Lac on September 30th, 2009 at 11:52 pm

where the phudge were you guys sitting? i didn’t realize you guys were going cause i missed the last show. bummer. kyle caught the game winner right in front of me! totally understand the posers, we had like 10 sitting behind us at the start of the game, and none after the catch. gotta give props to dayne for placing the purdue linebacker on his ass on golden’s touchdown. he’s going to be phenominal…p’s are contagious. you guys going to the pitt game?

nepachris on October 1st, 2009 at 4:32 am

Wow, Jersey…you’re gonna have to start writing the show for us. Nice list.

Sprout on October 1st, 2009 at 5:06 am

@Jersey: That may go down as one of the best posts we’ve ever had. Well done. We should have figured out a way to work pterodactyl into the Coaches’ Poll, our bad.

@nepachris: We were in section 105 I think, maybe 106, about the 35 yard line. Chances are good we’ll be at the Pitt game. Keep watching, we usually let people know if we are going to the game on the show before hand.

@ND du Lac: I agree on Toby Gerhart, that’s why I’m glad we play them last, hopefully he’ll be worn down by then.

Eric on October 1st, 2009 at 6:26 am

I think you guys are playing the odds at this point calling for another close game. In addition – you are giving Weis way too much latitude – Should this game against Washington be close – which it could, no debating that, however you end up failing to address some real glaring issues on both offense and defense. Conservative play calling has helped put us in these close games. I totally disagree that Weis prepared properly with the two QB rotation. While he did design two separate offenses for Clausen and Crist – he really needed to cut Crist loose. The conservative play calling, that Crist did execute well, should definitely been mixed w/ some misdirection and high percentage passes which would have given the kid confidence and prepared him more should CLausen totally go out AND allowed for keeping CLausen on the sidelines during the Purdue game giving him a leg up for Washington and beyond. It was only a matter of time that Purdue adjusted to the pretty much run only attack.

Defense remains an issue especially on pass defense – tackling is key and I am convinced Eric should have been able to expand on this a bit more – Sprout – dude you’re hogging. Overall good observations but dont get soft on us! GO IRISH!

House of Rockne on October 1st, 2009 at 6:14 pm

Also – regarding Pole 13 – why a black out? Why not honor Our Lady and make it a Blue out? I am thinking the way the season is playing out Our Lady may be feeling a bit slighted here…

House of Rockne on October 1st, 2009 at 6:57 pm

I’m all over pole 13. Where are you guys? Go Irish!

Dager on October 3rd, 2009 at 11:23 am

Anything but Green, we have lost more green jersey games than won. It worked in ‘77 because it was such a huge surprise.

Jim on October 4th, 2009 at 4:00 pm

    Guys,

How pathetic is the tackling?? What is even more pathetic is that I saw guys watching and not playing til the whistle blows. It is also irritating to see guys running around with their heads cut off prior to the snap.

We are on the verge of 8-4 or 7-5 as long as the D plays like it has(between the 20’s).

Harrison Smith….you are killing me Smalls.

Why are they teaching our DB’s to not turn and look for the ball??
