“Step Back from the Ledge” Home

Everyone is freaking out. And rightfully so. But the Loyal Sons aren’t willing to give up just yet. They are no Weis apologists, but Sprout and Eric still think there are some redeeming actions the Irish can take to salvage some of this season.

Oh, and Sprout gets drunk and yells at a “fan”.

You guys are missing the obvious corporate teet to suck on: Subway! And how about their $5 foot longs?! That would be hilarious!

Josh on November 12th, 2008 at 3:36 am

You guys heading to Baltimore for the game??

Chris on November 12th, 2008 at 6:09 am

@Josh but then we would have that damn song stuck in our heads all the time.

@Chris, unfortunately we aren’t. We are going to USC and three coastal trips in one year was as much as we could afford. Hopefully, next year when the corporate teat is in full effect, we will have our own private jet or something. Bring us a victory though.

Sprout on November 12th, 2008 at 6:16 am

Sprout, try missed connections on craigslist, and you might find that girl from the bar.

JoePa on November 12th, 2008 at 7:35 am

Great idea JoePa. Just checked it out and although there were two “green sweater and a sweet hat” missed connections, neither of them were for me. Damnit.

Sprout on November 12th, 2008 at 7:51 am

Sprout, you’re right about that song. It haunts me for days.

Josh on November 12th, 2008 at 8:11 am

haha josh is dead on with this one. sprout that chuckling at the end was probably the cutest thing i’ve ever seen. oh, and i hope my shirt doesn’t smell like cottage cheese/donkey breath…but ill still wear it if it does :)

piper on November 12th, 2008 at 9:28 am

“Worst-case scenario, you’re dressed for your own funeral.” Priceless.

Hey Sprout if that d-bag doesn’t want that shirt, I’ll gladly take it off your hands!

Great show as always. Hopefully I’ll see you guys at the Syracuse game next week

weisgipper on November 12th, 2008 at 2:54 pm

Just bought me a shirt, but any chance you guys are going to have long sleeve anytime soon? I’d love to wear it at the Syracuse game but my San Diego skin would be a little cold…. I definitely be sporting it at the U$C game.

Daniel on November 12th, 2008 at 4:45 pm

Pretty impressive, guys. I think I’ll have to start watching every week. It’s also good to see that you’ve calmed down and no more bar stools are in immediate danger.

Carolyn on November 12th, 2008 at 7:34 pm

@Daniel, long sleeves are not in the immediate future, we’ve got plenty of short sleeves to sell first. Sorry.

@Carolyn, Eric and I just racked our brains for 10 minutes trying to figure out which bar stools you are referencing, but we are coming up empty. Our apologies in advanced, but can you enlighten us?

Sprout on November 12th, 2008 at 7:43 pm

Black out Nov. 29? It usually is a black out for ND fans in that shitty stadium they call the LA Colisuem. SC puts us all in a very dark corner and charges alot of $$, then their football team kicks our asses. Yeah, I’m voting for a black out this Thanksgiving weekend!

    Irish73 on November 12th, 2008 at 7:45 pm

As far as I can remember no bar stools were injured in the filming of The Subway Alumni Show. But regardless, I am already embarrassed.

Eric on November 12th, 2008 at 7:57 pm

There’s nothing wrong with our kickoffs. We may not get touchbacks, but the coverage was second in the country last I looked, and on Saturday the one KO return BC had only went for about 14 yds, which is below our average.

Also, BC’s defense is pretty good. It’s the best pass efficiency defense we’d seen yet, though not by a huge margin (comparable to MSU’s and UNC’s).

Craig on November 12th, 2008 at 8:40 pm

Great show guys. I love it. What is that beer? Looks like Pilsner Urquell bottle but I didnt catch the name. I’m not buying a shirt but have made it known to my wife that it would make a great stocking stuffer. When are you going to start selling jackets like Eric’s? That would be money>

hondo on November 12th, 2008 at 11:32 pm

ok faithful, lets all relax and let logic take over rather than passion. Weis is doing a good job, the players are just young and prone to making mistakes. It will all come together soon, and next year watch out!! for those calling for Weis’s head, please use logic and ask yourself, “do i really want to start this all over again, or give him one more year with the talent that he has amassed as well as the top talent coming in?”..lets face it, if they fired weis, we could end up like michigan this year, or even worse another repeat of last year. Not too mention, we would probably lose a considerable amount of the top tier recruits that are coming in to make this one of the most potent offenses since the days of tim brown, jerome bettis, rocket, and tony rice COMBINED!! It will come together, have faith, have belief, WE ARE THE FIGHTING IRISH!!

eric on November 13th, 2008 at 10:49 am

Who ever said you guys are selling out and are sucking the corperate teet, can suck my corperate deek! You guys are awesome. You make me want to start my own website. I agree, lets not panic. Next year we go 9-3. The whole offensive line will be back, defensive line will add more depth, Darrin Walls back in secondary, and Cirre Wood returing punts and kicks. All we need is a running back to step up. Keep up the good work.

Ryan on November 13th, 2008 at 11:15 am

Excellent show, guys. Funny stuff, as usual.

Hope to see you at the Cuse game.

Brian Boru on November 13th, 2008 at 12:40 pm

bring some extra shirts to usc. it’s going to be our officially shirt for the tailgate. the subway alumni show will be the sponsor of the watermelon smashing event.

rohn on November 13th, 2008 at 12:46 pm

one more thing, i think we need more david grimes to save the season.

rohn on November 13th, 2008 at 12:47 pm

@hondo: The beer this week was Czechvar, it’s an AB product but the original is Budvar which they sell in Europe. It’s delicious, highly recommend it. And I’m sorry but the jacket is a one-of-a-kind, although if there is enough of an interest we could make some long-sleeved tuxedo style shirts that look like the jacket. Those actually maybe even better than the jacket.

@rohn: We’d be honored to sponsor the watermelon smashing event. What’s Grimey’s story? (man I hope someone gets the Simpsons reference)

Eric on November 13th, 2008 at 2:05 pm

Guys, I think you might have a residence hall sponsor in Carroll Hall! Even though they weren’t mentioned on your show for nicknames (Vermin, by the way), they would love to sponsor you and your show.

If that doesn’t work out, I’ll give my peeps at Pepsi a call for ya!

weisgipper on November 13th, 2008 at 3:03 pm

If I remember correctly, Eric punched one of the Joshua Tree bar stools pretty hard after the game. But it might have been the table…

Carolyn on November 13th, 2008 at 4:38 pm

    BIG Fan of you guys!

Please check out my new Notre Dame blog

@Carolyn, that makes sense now as to why I don’t remember…I was busy looking for my BC friend at that point.

    @weisgipper, more details please.

@rohn, the excitement I have for Barf Bonanza II doubles everyday. With comments like yours, it triples.

Sprout on November 13th, 2008 at 7:55 pm

Hey guys, I was obviously kidding in that post on NDN last week. I would think that the phrase “sucking on the corporate teat” would have been a dead giveaway. Nobody actually talks like that, except perhaps for Keith Olberman or Michael Moore.

Love the show. Keep up the good work.

Cartwright, a.k.a. Brian from BGS on November 14th, 2008 at 7:24 am

No worries, Brian. I think we just wanted to vent our frustration from the BC game. (Plus, since I hardly watched the game, I had little else to talk about.)
