Awesome CO LE CO action there. Great to see it at work. I had thought about getting some Coleco figures and figuring out if they could be placed on the hood of the MD, and then just start revving the engine to see where they’d go. Well, it was a thought.

Once again amazing job on the electronic reproduction of that play. Just as I recall it so many years ago.

He was so freaking good it was just silly. I count at least 5 Buffs, maybe 6, who touch him, and 7 had a chance at him. The best part of that play is the quote right before the kick; “I’m sure Roen will kick out of bounds. He will punt out of bounds. He HAS to.”

The “clip” comes at the 0:42 mark. Clearly hits him in the shoulder with his shoulder, and Buff player immediately then dives, trying to grab Ismael.

From NCAA, pg.46:

ARTICLE 1. a. Clipping is a block against an opponent occurring when the force of the initial contact is from behind and at or below the waist (Exception: Against the ball carrier) (Rule 9-1-2-d).
b. The position of the blocker’s head or feet does not necessarily indicate
the point of initial contact.

Not sure on that. My understanding is that it’s a hit from behind and below the waist. This hit looked like shoulder to shoulder to me. And not exactly what I would call from behind.

I used to lead my team in penalties in college for similar reasons. And I would constantly get technicals for arguing with refs, “If you can hit him in the shoulder with your shoulder, it’s not from behind!” They weren’t having any of it.

1) Like I said….I couldn’t find the clip on Youtube.
2) I’m quite aware of the Hurricanes getting the nod over the Irish because of the head to head.
Thanks for the explanation in all seriousness on the clip. All these years I have always thought it was a clip.
3) I thought I made a point to say that the NC was on the line for colorado in ND vs CU II. Re-reading what I had written it appears that I have forgotten to include that. Total Mind-blow. I know my shit…I don’t forget things like that. The early loss to stanford and the late loss to PSU screwed them.

Great stuff as always guys. That call and losing to BC in 93 were some of the toughest moments in my teenage years. The memories have faded a bit, but the pain never goes away. Thankfully my kids are still too young to understand why Daddy vomits when he hears or sees “Bush Push”. But someday, I will have to explain why Daddy drinks so much after an ND loss….Hope you’re having a great summer, can’t wait for kickoff!
