“A Steigerwald Finally Beat Michigan” Home

We’re not gonna lie, we would much rather have this entire show be about how a little known kicker from the MAC, who just so happens to share our same last name, kicked a 48 yard field goal to beat Michigan. It’s certainly a better story than talking about losing to UNC.

Unfortunately, this isn’t the Toledo Rockets Show, so we’ll just have to dissect our disturbing loss to the Tar Heels and question where we go from here. Thankfully, we’ve got a Golden Bucket of Schlitz to keep us company.

Sprout, I think this is what Eric was talking about regarding Michael Floyd.

I don’t know how you can read that and not like him even more.

JoePa on October 15th, 2008 at 6:51 am

Thanks JoePa. The schlitz hindered my memory of the whole story.

    Tate’s status on facebook:
“Golden Tate is gonna see jp2 win on their homecoming”

thats what he is doing this weekend. no clue what jp2 is though.

If Lou voted in the Coaches Poll, ND would have 1 vote and it would be a first place vote.

Mike on October 15th, 2008 at 10:02 am

Kamara has the freshman WR records.

Dion on October 15th, 2008 at 10:55 am

@Mike, jp2 is Golden Tate’s high school, Pope John Paul II. So he’s probably heading home for the weekend.

JoePa on October 15th, 2008 at 1:29 pm

Mike, if you could keep us up-to-date with all of Golden’s facebook status changes, profile updates, tagged pictures, etc…that would be phenomenal.

    Slightly sketchy…but phenomenal.

Hopefully see you in Seattle. Great brews there. Maybe share a Drool. Was at NC. Bummer. I’ll try to let you know re: some hot spots. Bob from MT

Schlitz is back? Ah, the golden nectar of my youth. And $.39 quarts from the A&P across from Nicky’s.

    That’s old, son, really old.

This weekend, we need to eat cheeseburgers and watch Rudy. Or watch any Notre Dame victory you can download.

    Look for you in Seattle.

One of the best ND football experiences I’ve ever had was at Udub. Season of 1995. Sat 2 rows from the track and ND was down most of the game. ND Cheerleaders were right in front of us and the Leprechaun kept running up in front of us and giving the 1st down motion as we made our late game rally. Then, when we scored our last TD to take the lead, he jumped into the stands right on top of us. It was awesome.

By the way, if memory serves me right, the guy who owns this ND site, and maker of the great “ND Season Highlight” videos lives out in the Sea-town area. I don’t know his name, but I think he works for one of the local TV stations (KIRO maybe?) If you haven’t checked out any his season highlight videos of past, download them for free and burn them to DVD. They’re pretty kick ass….well, all of them except last year’s. I might have just given you your entertainment for the upcoming bye week.

Ok…I guess my info. is wrong. Looks like he’s a MBA student at UND now.

Still, his videos are kick ass, no matter where he lives. You can watch the individual games…but the DVD highlight videos on the site are much better.

Schlitz, all kinds of awesome guys. Good show, my only suggestion is to maybe make the show a few minutes longer! I enjoy watching every week - keep it real.

my brother is doing the urbanathalon this weekend in chicago. he might be able to help you along if you’re struggling.

john on October 15th, 2008 at 7:48 pm

Nice. Tell him to keep his eyes out for me. I’ll be near the back of the pack Im sure, wearing something Notre Dame related. If anything, I’ll keep my eyes out for him to grab a beer with after.

Sprout on October 15th, 2008 at 7:56 pm

Sorry…pretty random, but Eric bears a striking resemblence to Zach Hillesland of the Irish hoops team. Just thought I’d throw that out there.

Jack on October 15th, 2008 at 8:47 pm

Well, let’s just say Eric can kick a field goal better than he can play basketball.

Sprout on October 15th, 2008 at 8:57 pm

@Mike - You need to use your facebook skills to find out which football players’ parents want to tailgate with us at the USC game. 4 years ago we got Goolsby’s dad, but 2 years ago we had no team member’s family.

I will be going to a car auction on the week off.

I can hit a reverse-layup. And if left open from the corner behind the arc I probably can shoot 45%. Those are Damon Jones’ like numbers and we all know he is the greatest shooter of all-time.

Eric on October 16th, 2008 at 5:00 am

Out of 10 attempts, who would make more?

Brandon Walker from 40 yards out

    or…

    Eric shooting from half-court

Jack on October 16th, 2008 at 10:35 am

Oh man… I love that idea. Over the past two years, how many 40+ attempts does Walker have? Let’s just take that average and we’ll get Eric out on the court this weekend.

Sprout on October 16th, 2008 at 10:52 am

Walker is 3 for 12 for his career outside of 40 yards…pretty damn terrible.

Jack on October 16th, 2008 at 12:25 pm

I bet Eric makes 1…at best.

Sprout on October 16th, 2008 at 12:30 pm

Great show guys I’m def gonna have to find somewhere around Columbus that sells the Shlitz haven’t had that shlit for awhile.

I do have a question tho, I just got out of the Marines and my dad bought me tickets to my first ND home game (Been to two away) vs Syracuse on the 22nd you guys got any pointers to make my first ND home game as memorable as possible?

Todd on October 16th, 2008 at 12:56 pm

@Todd: Don’t have too much advice for you. There is a ton of different stuff to see on Game Day around campus. Outside of all the tailgating - the players walk from the chapel to the stadium is pretty cool to see, along with the band marching into the stadium. It’s really just a special atmosphere walking around campus. Enjoy your Schlitz.

@Jack and Sprout: If I get into a rhythm early I can hit more than 3. Hopefully the same can be said for Walker.

Eric on October 17th, 2008 at 8:36 am

Thanks Eric, we were def gonna watch the players and the band for sure, I can’t wait to take it all in… around what time do they walk after mass?

Todd on October 18th, 2008 at 9:43 am

    Sprout and Eric,
During my bye week, I dried out from drinking the pain away from the L in Chapel Hill. Also, I did a lot of research on how bad Ty has been throughout his career. His one Rose Bowl season included a loss to San Jose St and a beatdown from Texas. It was pre-Carroll Pac-10 and they made the Rose Bowl at 8-4. My main focus is the Washington years. Ty has had a 6 game losing streak in every year at UW, bringing his record in Seattle to 11-31. The glaring stat is that Ty has 6 wins versus Pac-10 opponents during his reign of terror (05-present). Weis has had 7 wins versus Pac-10 teams in the same length of time. Ty is on thin ice out west and this mantra holds true from his time at ND….If you don’t get wins, there will be no Ty’s.
