“We Tailgated Pretty Hard” Home

Rumors have been flying around like crazy since Saturday, but the Loyal Sons will be the first to go on the record and say…BarfBonanza II was a huge success. Our thanks to the guys over at tgiab and the jupmode family for putting together such a great time. So great, in fact, that even celebrities like Miss D’Emilio stopped by.

OK, now on to the important stuff…

What do we do about Charlie? Serious rumors are flying around, but it appears the University is staying mum about it. Will we have to wait for Swarbrick’s meeting for a final word? Thankfully, Sprout and Eric have compiled a list of questions they’d like to be answered in this week’s Coaches Poll.

[...] LA. this is the most famous notre dame tailgate. just look at the sheer joy on sprout’s face. the subway alumni show has the recap. check out their [...]

oh yeah, the nd/usc tailgate was a great time. « john amato on December 2nd, 2008 at 10:24 pm

sprout, a real man smashes the watermelon on his head until it breaks…even if it takes 5 tries. next time i’ll come prepared with my own watermelon.

    love the new intro.

rohn on December 2nd, 2008 at 10:44 pm

I definetly would have watched you guys tailgate for 3 1/2 hours on TV over the beatdown we took… maybe you guys should suck on the corporate teet some more and have NBC broadcast you guys partying over the horrible football we usually see on Saturdays… ratings would be through the roof… and that themesong is very catchy.

Also, thank you for turning me on to Magic Hat… bought some #9 for my bro and I and waited until 8 to drink it… puts the 18 Coors Light I had previous to that to shame.

Todd on December 3rd, 2008 at 12:25 pm

Oh and the only thing that would happen if a team wears their dark “home” jerseys is the loss of one timeout. At least thats the Pac-10 rule I’d assume we woulda went by that on Saturday.

Todd on December 3rd, 2008 at 12:39 pm

@Todd: Losing one timeout for black jerseys would be well worth it seeing how Charlie Weis hasn’t called an efficient one in about 7 games I’d be okay with it.

Nice move saving the #9 till kick-off, I definitely could’ve used a few in the Coliseum.

Eric on December 3rd, 2008 at 1:21 pm

Completely agree with Todd. I would participate in the tailgate, Tivo it, and then watch it instead of watching whatever the hell product we are currently putting on the field.

In other news, the tailgate was legendary. Can’t wait to top it in 2 years.

Tuning back in to ND Football….

So, ND released a statement today. But I’ve still got a couple of questions.

Why would Swarbrick announce that Weis and him were going to meet in S. Bend on Dec. 8th, only to fly to California and meet with him 6 days earlier?

And where in that press release does it say that Charlie Weis will be the Notre Dame Head Football coach for the 2009 season? That’s right, it doesn’t say that.

Read between the lines people. This is damage control for recruiting.

    A quote from the release:
“…We are examining every aspect of the program and will make changes wherever we think they are needed.”

Changes. Meaning…hire a different coach once that coach is played in his bowl game.

Let’s say Charlie has known he’s fired….but has been told to continue on with the recruiting until they get his replacement in place. If he’s having trouble convincing recruits that he’ll be back next year, maybe the statement released today was done to help solidify his recruiting efforts. It buys ND more time for a certain someone (cough-Urban-cough-Meyer) to finish the SEC/National Championship. Then once that’s happened, Swarbrick can “…examine…and make changes” and officially fire Charlie….and hire Meyer.

Clutch on December 3rd, 2008 at 4:35 pm

    Clutch, you crack me up.

That would be quite the scenario, although I think it would be pretty damaging to Notre Dame’s reputation to do something that sneaky.

Sprout on December 3rd, 2008 at 4:46 pm

Well, after reading news of this in an article on BGS this afternoon, Pat made a good point. The AD is a lawyer. I’ve heard from people who used to live in Indy when Swarbrick was there, he is a no BS type of guy. And being a lawyer, the statement released today never really states that Weis will be the coach next year. So technically we might be able to get away with giving him the boot in a few months.

    (cue dream sequence music)
Ok…now that I’m back to reality. How about the 3 red shirt freshman for next year? Crist, Goodman and Walker. Damn, if feels good to be a gangster.

What the he** are you and Eric going to do in the off season. Especially since the Mishawaka Brewing Co. closed it’s doors for good? I’ve got a 6-pack of their “4 Horsemen” beer in my fridge right now. How much do you think they would go for on Ebay. Wait, let me ask that again once we win a Nat. Championship.

Jan. 24th: ND vs. UConn. Mannix and myself will be hold the 1st ever Winter Liver Olympics at Pole 13. Anyone interested?

Clutch on December 3rd, 2008 at 5:06 pm

Yeah I just read an article on NDNation that I’m guessing is similar to Pat’s. Haven’t headed over to BGS yet, but I’ll go read that now.

It all makes valid points. I guess the timing of it all is what surprises me the most. Unless it was an attempt to save face after it was announced yesterday that Charlie would be head coach next year. Maybe Swarbrick felt he HAD to say something.

    Time will tell.

As for the offseason, we’ve got plenty of ideas cooked up. But we are welcome to all and any. Basketball season will keep us plenty occupied, but we are also going to try and get some fans on the show or go out to them.

The Winter Liver Olympics sounds like a fantastic idea. It’s too early for me to commit right now, but I’d say it’s a strong possibility.

Sprout on December 3rd, 2008 at 5:19 pm

Hey… stop looking and you shall find it….stop looking for urban meyer and maybe he will find us after charlie leaves. oh… and can I shot gun the SAS club of new york chapter. thanks
    jbuck of tfib.com

John on December 3rd, 2008 at 5:59 pm

for your tfib.com geniusness and optimism, yes…you are granted the NY Chapter.

Sprout on December 3rd, 2008 at 6:05 pm

1.26 seconds is the world shotgun record. Although that was back in 1991, when I was young.

Clutch on December 3rd, 2008 at 6:42 pm

    That’s crap Clutch…more like 2.35 seconds…and I was there and beat you…with a couple of dribbles.

Mannix on December 3rd, 2008 at 6:51 pm

There’s only one way to solve this.

Sprout on December 3rd, 2008 at 6:58 pm

Still, you’re not a man unless you have shotgunned a Guiness and not swallow the nitrus tab. Clutch, you were there…and I’m pretty sure you opted out of that one.

Mannix on December 3rd, 2008 at 7:06 pm

Yes….but I on the other hand have shotgunned a Coke. Why? I don’t know…all I can say is I was in college and energy drinks weren’t invented yet. I needed a pick me up for class.

Clutch on December 3rd, 2008 at 7:22 pm

I think you guys need your own show. Eric and I will be your producers.

Sprout on December 3rd, 2008 at 7:23 pm

so can we get new york chapter patched for our sas shirts?

John on December 3rd, 2008 at 7:41 pm

Haha. We’ll bring it up at our annual board meeting.

Sprout on December 3rd, 2008 at 7:44 pm

I don’t like this handing out SAS chapters thing… I mean I live in Columbus so I’m pretty much screwed since I live in the same state as you guys… also anyone goin to the b-ball game this weekend in Indy? I’ll be there and gettin some tailgatin done for sure.

Todd on December 3rd, 2008 at 7:46 pm

Fear not, Todd. We live in Chicago now. The Great State is still up for grabs.

Sprout on December 3rd, 2008 at 7:48 pm

Mannix and I got the the Detroit and Southwestern Michigan crew taken care of. ND fans over here are pretty rough…kind of like the type of crew you would pick up from Stoney Island, IL.

Clutch on December 3rd, 2008 at 7:56 pm

We do need our own show…but we need to find a way to video conference…bro Clutch lives 2 hours from the D! By the way, like I predicted Clutch, Psycho T has invaded, and the Spartans are falling. Can’t blame them for trying, 300 Freaks!!!!

Mannix on December 3rd, 2008 at 8:32 pm

Speaking of running into celebritys while playing on the sideline John Stamos walked by, as well as Ray Romano.

Ken Hamilton on December 5th, 2008 at 9:00 am

You’re telling me if I was in the band, there’s a chance I could have met John Stamos? Sonuva!

Sprout on December 5th, 2008 at 9:09 am

Mishawaka Brew Co. is closed? What is this world coming to????

How do I join the NY Chapter?

    Herman96 on December 5th, 2008 at 9:14 am

@Herman96, I should leave that up to your newly appointed regional president John to decide the NY initiation process… but I’ll pull rank just this once and say as long as you watch our show and/or buy a shirt you are pretty much in.

John, being the go-getter that he sounds like, will probably establish a local pub from which your initiation process will continue with shots of pints. It’s a grueling process.

Sprout on December 5th, 2008 at 9:21 am

From what I read for the most part…a lot of the comments on the coaching… I think there would be a lot of bitching no matter which way the coaching situation ends up..

fightenmick on December 5th, 2008 at 9:26 am

Good show but Sprout seems to be slurring his speech a little. Must be the watermelon shot to the noggin. Maybe you jarred something loose. Nice hair by the way…I didnt know you had any. Keep em coming boys, I’ll watch this show all year long. If you need a Jersey Shore Pres, I’d like to be considered. Lastly, does the interlocking SA on your shirts stand for schematic advantage?

hondo on December 5th, 2008 at 10:33 pm

How long until we can purchase advertising space somewhere in the background of your new set? :)

And given the way sports went for ND this weekend (Women’s soccer losing to UNC in the championship game, Men’s basketball losing to OSU, football choosing to go to the Hawaii Bowl) you guys are going to have to get some hockey jerseys.

DagerOne on December 7th, 2008 at 6:31 pm

I love where your head is head DagerOne. Please tell me you work for some huge corporation.

And yeah, if one more sport loses to UNC I’m gonna flip. I’m ashamed to wear my argyle hat.

Sprout on December 7th, 2008 at 6:55 pm

Do you guys think you might be expanding on new ways to suck the corporate teet anytime soon? Like make dvds of this year’s videos…Subway Alumni Show: Season 1. I’d buy one.

Kevin on December 7th, 2008 at 9:59 pm

We will be releasing videos on iTunes soon so people can watch podcasts on their iPods and what-have-yous. But they will be free downloads…hardly sucking on the teet there.

I like the DVD idea though. Maybe we’ll have to make a limited autographed box set of the show, uncut and uncensored. We end up editing out about 10-20 minutes of footage each episode because they get too long. I’m sure there’s a couple gems that’ve ended up on the editing floor. Plus, you’ll then learn Eric doesn’t really swear…he just says “frick” the whole time.

Sprout on December 7th, 2008 at 10:07 pm

I’m curious if the decision to go to the Hawaii bowl had anything to do with a certain 5 star LB recruit from that state.

Gallagher on December 8th, 2008 at 6:54 am

    Oh, Im sure it is.

What better way to lock up his commitment? As if throwing snowballs at your own team didn’t impress him enough.

I’m sure us laying a big pile of coal on his home state’s field and seeing Charlie in a floral print shirt is going to convince him.
