“You Put Your Nail Into the Stump” Home

The Pacific Northwest was very good to the Loyal Sons. They tailgated with some great friends, met many new ones, and helped the team say goodbye to an old one.

And in addition to reviewing the game, Sprout and Eric give advice to the ND family on potential Halloween costumes.

Since you boys enjoy the freshman dorms so much (who doesn’t), I’ll have to hook you up with my buddy Sean who lives in a dorm up at BC. Booze and I stayed there last year when we visited Boston. Good show guys

Did you sit with my brother is the UW student section? Or did he ditch the Huskies to sit with you guys?

I think we need to incorporate that nail/stump game into future tailgates. But is there a winner in that game somehow?

JoePa on October 29th, 2008 at 9:30 am

The look on Ty’s face after the fake punt? How do I put this? Epicly Stoic? Stoicly Stoic? How about freaking hilarious?! I have literally watched that 50 times on the DVR, it just does not get old, although it does bring back painful memories of hard times at ND…. Anyway, love the show, keep up the great work! Muck Fichigan.

@burtonrider If you can take a screen cap of that and send it to us, that would be awesome. Still haven’t seen a replay of the game.

@JoePa I’ve been thinking nonstop how awesome it would be to play some Stump at a ND tailgate, unfortunately, I don’t think the SBPD would like it too much. Perhaps at BarfBananza?

Sprout on October 29th, 2008 at 10:24 am

Check your email guys, I just sent over some screen shots. The stills don’t really do it justice however. Check out ESPN 360 for a free replay, it was GREAT live. You could almost see him mentally making tee times for Sunday morning after that happened.

    burtonrider11 on October 29th, 2008 at 11:46 am

Haha. Oh man, that is great. He’s totally visualizing his putting game.

Sprout on October 29th, 2008 at 12:54 pm

Good show, guys. You need to watch the replay and listen to Davie talk. He had a couple of good nuggets. “The buildings…..you know Washington’s campus is a lot like Notre Dame’s campus because of the buildings, the style of the buildings.” The best line, though, came inadvertently from his partner. As Bob is poetically talking about Ty’s early successes in 2002 (with players he did not recruit of course), his partner chimes in that Notre Dame had not seen success like that in years. Burn! The guy sitting right next to you is the cause of that lack of success. Bob probably did not even notice the insult…he was probably thinking about a fake audible or R.C. Slocum.

The BarfBonanza II is the perfect place for Stump to be introduced to the masses. Will you guys find a stump? We’ll provide the music.

    Great show again…

    Rodney Dangerfield-RIP
Don’t think he’ll be oging as Charlie

peruzzi on October 29th, 2008 at 3:03 pm

Dudes, was that even the real Rodney Dangerfield??

Paddy on October 29th, 2008 at 3:33 pm

@Paddy Haha, no. I’m pretty sure it’s a tribute artist (if such a thing can exist for Rodney). But the image was too perfect we had to include it.

Sprout on October 29th, 2008 at 4:12 pm

@dogolfer: We’ll have a few days in LA before the BarfBonanza II. I’ll see if I can scope out a good stump from the locals. For some reason I have a feeling they’ll be hard to come by in southern California.

I’m going to be at the game this weekend and was wondering where you all usually tailgate? I love the show and would like to say hello.

Mark on October 29th, 2008 at 6:20 pm

Great show. What’s up with the sweater vest though? You guys lose a bet?

Nick on October 29th, 2008 at 6:50 pm

@NIck being Halloween, we thought it would be best to put our mannequin in costume too. Plus, our good buddy is the guy who sells them, so we thought we’d help him out. http://www.jupmode.com

@Mark we usually tailgate near Pole 13 of the Joyce lot, but I think this weekend we will be in White Field with a bunch of people. We’ll hopefully have our new shirts by then, so look for everyone wearing a Subway Alumni shirt. Hope to see you.

Sprout on October 29th, 2008 at 7:30 pm

Any idea how much the shirts will be?

Mark on October 30th, 2008 at 5:14 am

still working out the details. We are going to include shipping and tax in the price so we need to break out the calculator. We’ll let you know soon.

Sprout on October 30th, 2008 at 5:26 am

Count the strokes it takes each person to drive the nail to the max. The person with the least amount of strokes is the winner .

fightenmick on October 30th, 2008 at 8:03 am

@fightenmick: So now your suggesting that along with holding your beer and swinging/aiming a hammer that we now should be keeping track of strokes. Man this game just keeps getting tougher.

Eric on October 30th, 2008 at 2:13 pm

Hi guys. I hate to belabor a point (as Katie Couric might say) but I have to put in my two cents about Coach Leahy. The only reason he isn’t the greatest college football coach in history is because Knute Rockne is. So he’s the second greatest. But what a career! Of ND’s 11 national championships, he was an integral part of SIX of them. Of ND’s 7 Heisman winners, he recruited FIVE of them. Yes, yes, it’s just a countdown list on a gridiron, but you have to find a way to put Coach Leahy on just below Rock. You have to.

    The Inability of Three (3)

    Eric & Sprout:

Thanks for coming by our Tailgate and being part of our group at Pole 13. Special thanks for the T-Shirt, it was very nice of you to give me one.

The Pitt Game was another Inability of Three - The 3rd Quarter, 3rd Downs and 3-Points having to do with Field Goals. One of the worst play calling I’ve seen in the last minute of the game and it didn’t get any better when Charlie took over in OT.

Hope to see you in the near future at the Syracuse Game and don’t forget B-Ball Tix if needed in the future.
